The possibility of realistic prediction of the scope and the character of deformations of rein-forced-soil retaining structures is discussed in this article. In the first part of the paper, a short review of the commonly used methods to calculate the deformations of reinforced soil (RS) structures is presented. Their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. Additionally, an original analytical method enabling assessment of strains and displacements in RS structures is described. Then, the results of using the se-lected available methods of describing the reinforced-soil structures deformation are discussed. Their ac-curacy was verified on the basis of data obtained from previously published experimental tests. Main conclusions are enclosed. Important problems which need further investigations are also identified.
