The advent of high strength geogrids in 1980 focused attention on geogrid reinforced soil retaining walls. (GRSRW’s). Since then various facing types and systems have been developed which offer stable, aesthetic and easy to construct solutions at much lower cost than the traditional alternatives. This paper discusses the evolution ofGRSRW’s and some conm1ercial and technical advantages and shortcomings of various systems.
