In this paper the use of geomembrane liners for groundwater protection in roads in groundwater-pumping areas is described. The requirements for the chemical resistance of geomembrane liners are shown. Furthermore, field tests with regard to mechanical damage of geomembrane liners under cyclic load are introduced and evaluated. Finally, a procedure to verify the stability of cover soil on geomembrane-lined slopes is described.
