Landslides are classified into two groups according to their mode of motion. The first group of landslides start to move suddenly by the rainfall or melting snow. The second group oflandslides, which are moving slowly for long period, start to move in a high speed. If the ground surface of the landslide is covered with geomembrane and does not allow percolation of seeping water by rain or melting snow, catastrphe will be avoided. The geomembranes should be covered with protecting soils, in order to allow land use and vegetation. If the slope is steep, retaining walls are used to flatten the slope.
