The _granular pile occurs. excessive settlement be ause of bulging deformation at the top, so th beanng capacity decre ses. A senes of laboratory loading tests is carried out to study the effect of
remf rceme t on the e r!ng capa ity of !he g anular pile, and the testing results show that the bearing
capac ty can mcrease sigmf1cantly with the msertion of geogrid in the gran lar piles. A method is suggested
to estimate the load -settlement r lat!on of the granular pile and of the reinforced one, directly using the results of pressuremeter test and tnaxial test. The caculating results are consistent with that of the model
tests and with that of finite element method.
