Some of filtration and drainage problems related to the current usage
of geosynthetics have been briefly reviewed. As an example, prefabri_cated bandshaped drains are chot;en as the subject for review and discussion to illustrate the advantage of the use of geosynthetics for the pu rpose of filtration and drainage of soils, and also to point out the complexity of the interactions between soil and geQsynthetic material in contact when liquid flows through the
soil-geosynthetic ystem. A wide variety of products available and their widespread uniqu• uses indicate a further development and a tremendous future potential if continued research efforts, proper uses and unbiased understanding among all those concerned ensue.
