The taxiway and apron area of the Nakorn Sri Thammarat airport at south of Bangkok was constructed on 5-6 meter thick very soft dark grey clay in the swamp area. The Compact Vacuum Consolidation (CVC) method was used as the ground improvement approach to accelerate the consolidation of very soft clay. The sequence of construction by zoning with combination between applied vacuum consolidation and applied embankment loading is performed. The geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring results showed the 90% degree of consolidation settlement within 135 days vacuum operation.
