Geosynthetic structures are in vogue _in large numbers in developed countries because of its inherent advantages viz, economy, ease and speed in construction superior quality assurance over conventional technique etc. apart from the fact that in many application there are no other solutions. With economic liberalization in most parts of South Asian developing countries availability of various Geosynthetic material at affordable cost has opened new vistas in State of art techniques, paving the way for large scale use. In it’s ever increasing economic infrastructural development in South Asian region, Geosynthetic material is playing an important role. In India, applications with Geosynthetics are found to be economical in most applications. This paper analyses the economic viability offew major applications in the context of Indian development, on current projects implemented or under construction.
