This article brings forth case studies and experiences that have transpired while working in conjunction with Kansas City Southern of Mexico. Upon using the geogrid, they have successfully stabilized ballast and sub-ballast layers under a wide range of soil and loading conditions along their railway tracks. The primary obstacle that company faces, is having soft soil in their railway tracks. This in part is due to the location in the cultivation areas. The geogrid has contributed in various aspects. For example, in improving performance and operational productivity. In addition, it extends the life of mechanical rail line component by causing ballast settlement and lateral creep. Within the cases, there is one in particular termed the “L” line which runs from San Luis Potosí to Tampico. In this case, one sees problem with settlement, bad drainage and lateral movement of ballast.
